Eighth week in Mexico – How it was

This is my 8th week, so 2 full months in Mexico. I won’t say it’s a shitload of time, but it’s quite a while already and I hate seeing it flying by so fast.

So what did I do this week? To be honest, this week was more of a “resting week” than an actual productive one. What? I am not allowed to take a break? The most productive thing was, reading a whole book about marketing, called “22 Immutable Laws of Marketing”, which has some quite interesting points in it. This was part of a homework for my brand management seminar. Creating a mind map of the book was also part of the task. But both, reading plus mind mapping took me a little bit more than one morning. The book has 140 pages. For next class (on Saturday), I have to do the same with another 170-pages book.

That’s as about it about the productive part. On Friday, “X-Men: First Class” came to the cinemas and we wanted to see it. Then it occurred to me, that I have only seen one of the 4 previous ones (and I don’t even know which one). So before we can check out that movie in the cinema, I want to see all the others first. So I “organized” them and I am watching them in my private cinema (Beamer in my living room, connected to a 800W sound system). I know that the X-Men movies are in counter-chronological order anyway, but I believe they are meant to see in this order, so I will wait ’til I saw all of the previous ones.

At a sad notice: The dad of a friend died last week. And we went to the “funeral“. Well, it was not an actual funeral, but I don’t know how that is called. It’s a room in where the dead body is in a coffin and the family and friends are there, praying for the dead person (one day and one night) for him soul to go to heaven. Well, I was in there for being with the friend who lost her father.

During the week it got again that hot that stuff started to burn down, only because of the heat. Once in the morning, my bedroom was already smelling like smoke and pretty much all the city was full of smoke. It looked like fog when driving, and fog lights were necessary. Creepy! Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of that, because it looked like Coatzacoalcos was a ghost town.

Another uninteresting and boring story: This week I bought a new Judo suit. The one I had was only borrowed and it was of too thin material to actually fight correctly with it. (Told you it was boring).

On Friday, I had a quiet movie night in my place with my friends and having some “Bohemia” and “Dos Equis” (my two favorite mexican beer brands). It was more about having fun than about watching the movie, actually. And no: The famous “Todos en bikini”-theme didn’t apply. After that, my girlfriend and her friends joined us and we went all together to a Taco place. There was a flutist. I actually am not against that kinda stuff, but he was playing very bad. Which annoyed me. And apparently, that evening I was “talking a lot” in Spanish. What should I say? I have to learn Spanish, no? :)

On Saturday was the big “guy’s night out“. Some friends and me were “hitting the town”. First, getting a 24-pack of Corona and hanging out at the boulevard, just talking and having fun. By the way: All talking was in Spanish. It works pretty good, even with the one or the other beer. A curious thing: For amusement, you can buy electric shocks from a guy who walks across the boulevard with a teaser. Which is very stupid by the way. We didn’t do that. After that we went in a club called “Heaven”, which was a little too crowded for my taste. But at least here ARE people in the clubs. After leaving that club after a while, we went to the “White Horse”. What happens in the “caballo blanco”, stays in the “caballo blanco”. Haha no, we were actually just having a few drinks and a good time. Then, went back to the boulevard to finish up our beers and went to eat some (a little questionable) tacos. It was about 5am when we left.

Sunday was “Lazy Sunday“. Not because I was hung over (I surprisingly wasn’t), but because I only slept like 4 hours and then the sun woke me up. Having some tacos, watching a movie and doing some shopping. Yes, here almost everything is opened on Sundays too. We went shopping in a pharmacy. This is totally different from pharmacies in Europe, because beside medicaments and health stuff, you can get everything else too: Instant food, Nerf guns, cigarettes and everything else what a convenience store also has. I know, it’s paradox that a pharmacy sells cigarettes, but that’s just the way it is.

      Bisous!
